4/17/2024: Probation revoked. Defendant is committed to the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for a term of 165 days with 90 days credit for time already served and 30 days credit for the term of probation served. ORIGINAL SENTENCE: Defendant committed to the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for a term of 90 days. Defendant further sentenced to serve a term of 36 months of Probation, pay a $10 special assessment and $500 in restitution.

Criminal History

Rader, age 54, has been convicted of crimes on 23 occasions; he has been convicted of an offense almost every two or three years since he was 17 years old, including a criminal mischief conviction within the last year for damaging someoneโ€™s crops. Rader has multiple convictions for theft and burglary offenses, assaultive conduct, controlled substance offenses,6 failures to report to custody, and intoxicated driving. He currently stands charged in Union County, South Dakota, with allegedly stalking and trespassing on the property of his former girlfriend in October and November 2021. Courts have found Rader in violation of parole or probation conditions at least seven times.
In addition to his lengthy record of convictions and parole and probation violations, Rader also has been arrested an additional 11 times as an adult, although the charges were dismissed.

In 1996, at age 28, Rader was charged with assaulting a woman. According to the Affidavit, he punched her in the nose and repeatedly threatened to kill her, and according to the Trial Information, he entered her residence with intent to commit assault. Rader pleaded guilty to burglary and assault charges and was sentenced to 10 yearsโ€™ incarceration.
In 2009, at age 41, Rader was charged with aggravated assault. According to the Trial Information, he bit off a piece of someoneโ€™s ear. He was sentenced to 60 daysโ€™ incarceration.
In 2015, at age 47, Rader was convicted of possession of contraband. According to the Affidavit, when Rader surrendered himself to county jail for a parole violation, he smuggled marijuana into the jail. Rader was sentenced to five yearsโ€™ incarceration.
In 2016, at age 48, Rader was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver a controlled substance. According to the Affidavit, when officers arrested Rader at a hotel on a parole violation warrant, they recovered 56.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, two ounces of marijuana, and a digital scale. Rader was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 15 yearsโ€™ incarceration, suspended.
